If you’re planning to rent a vehicle for an upcoming trip, here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Double check your insurance coverage. Before you start traveling, contact your Insurance Agent to determine if coverage is available through your Personal Auto policy. Coverage may depend on the terms of your policy, where you will be renting the vehicle, and what type of vehicle you will be renting. In addition, you may want to check with your credit card company. If you are renting a vehicle with a credit card, the company may provide coverage in certain situations.
Document the condition of the vehicle before you leave the lot. Take the time to examine your rental vehicle before signing any paperwork. Document any pre-existing damage, and take pictures if possible. If you don’t have a camera, make sure to point out the damage to an employee to document.
As always, be attentive while driving. It may take some time to get used to the rental vehicle, and you may be driving in an unfamiliar area. Take extra caution on the road and avoid distractions, such as using a cellphone while driving.
